The Adoration scene above is part of a triptych carved by Gil de Siloé at the end of the fifteenth century. It is located at the Collegiate Church of Covarrubias in Castile and León, Spain. Gil de Siloé was a sculptor from Flanders that worked in Burgos. He completed many works for Spanish royalty of the time, including funeral monuments.

Trastámara
In 1496, a proxy marriage took place in Castile for Philip the Handsome (or the Fair) and Joanna of Castile. Philip (Count of Flanders and Lord of the Netherlands) was not present. Joanna left Castile that year to arrive in the lands of her new husband. The marriage arrangements were set by the heads of House Habsburg and House Trastámara, who were Emperor Maximilian I and the Catholic Monarch Ferdinand II, respectively.
