The Moorish Legacy

There are few ways to determine what is true of the past. To this end, art and literature are depended on the most. Art, in its many forms, provides the visual aide necessary to understand what the world looked like before our time. A major portion is also determined by literature, which will be the focus of this section. To understand literature, there needs to be an understanding of the meaning of words. As history started being revised during the nineteenth century, the definition of words posed a problem. That problem was addressed by skewing the meaning of words and has proved effective in its deceptiveness. Therefore, the audience must be reacquainted with the actual meanings of two words: swarthy and moor.
